Zach Sullivan joined the Elks along with his wife in 2018 and intended to remain a social member. He enjoyed playing euchre in our tournaments, and was convinced to give being an officer a try. He jumped in two years ago as Loyal Knight and is excited to be serving as this year's Exalted Ruler. Zach works for Charles City at the Wastewater Treatment Plant. He and his wife, Katie are busy raising their three children when not helping with Elks programs.
Steve Kincannon has been a member of the Charles City Elks for 11 years. As a social member for 8 of those years, he would occasionally volunteer to assist with meals, and the like. Then Leading Knight Brad Sindt suggested that Steve might enjoy spending time as an officer, and Steve apparently concurred! We wish him well as he moves through the chairs. Steve works for AgLand Implement and is a volunteer firefighter, as well.
Casey Eaves is a reasonably new member of the Elks, having joined in 2021, intending to be a social member of the Order. After watching from the sidelines and visiting with other officers, he finally agreed to "take the plunge" and become a Lodge officer. We're glad he did! Casey is married to fellow Elks member Chrissy, and is busy raising two girls. He is employed by Peoples Insurance and is happy to be involved with the Elks as an officer!
When we were recruiting officers for the current year, we were pleasantly surprised when Jessica actually VOLUNTEERED to serve! She had just joined the Elks and was attending a meeting when it was mentioned we needed officers for the upcoming year. Well, we took at her word, and away we go! Jessica works for Senior Life Solutions in Osage, Iowa as a RN. We celebrate with Jessica as she recently became engaged. It looks like a busy year ahead for this officer!
Larry Michehl, PER, A 35 year member of the Elks, Larry became active at the very first meeting following his initiation when he was named Chaplain of the Lodge. He held that position for six years before transitioning to Secretary, an office he has held ever since with the exception of one year when he served as Exalted Ruler. Larry served as District Deputy in 2005-06, and was on the State Scholarship Committee for 22 years. In addition, he has served as CLMS coordinator for Iowa since 2008-09. He was named “Officer of the Year” in 1997 and 2015. A retired vocal music instructor, Larry acknowledges that he spends most of his “spare” time working on Elks projects and helping mentor new vocal music teachers.
Rick McDonald has been a member of the Charles City Elks since March of 1993. This 32-year member took on the Treasurer position in 2021 after being an admittedly “social” member for his first 29 years in the Order. He was named "Officer of the Year" for the 2022-23 Lodge year. Rick is a retired business owner who was a great asset to the Lodge over the years. He is the proud father of 4 grown children who are scattered across 4 states.
Jerry has been an Elks member for 54 years. For 29 of those years, he has served as Treasurer of the Lodge. He was Exalted Ruler in 1997-98 and served as District Deputy in 2008-09. Jerry has served on the State Auditing Committee for 22 years. Jerry is a retired book-keeper / tax preparer and was the owner of the former Yeg’s Sports in Charles City. His son is an Elks member and he is proud that two of his grandchildren were initiated as well!
Steve first joined the Elks in 1995. He was a member through 1998 when he left us for a time, and then joined us again in 2009. In 2018 he stepped up to serve as an officer for the first time, and has continued his journey through the chairs. Steve’s father was a 43 year member of the Elks and his wife is a member (and officer) as well. Steve ascended to the Exalted Ruler position just in time for the COVID-19 pandemic to present quite the set of challenges. He seems to be enjoying a “calmer” Trustee position! Steve works at Mills, INC as an HVAC technician during the day and loves to spend time on the golf course during the summer.
Sally has been a member of the Elks for 9 years. After watching from the sidelines for the first few years as a member, she decided to become more actively involved by becoming an officer. She was named “Officer of the Year” for the 2018-19 Lodge year. Sally works for St. Croix Hospice when not volunteering at the Lodge. Her husband is a PER at the Lodge and currently serves as a Trustee as well!
Brad Sindt was initiated in October of 2017 and immediately expressed an interest in getting more involved in the Order. Well, he certainly got his wish when he was elected to serve as Lecturing Knight that same year! He has been quite busy as an officer working with a committee on maintaining the Lodge’s Lake and the area surrounding it. Brad is grateful for the support he had when he served as Exalted Ruler, but is even more thankful for his newly earned "PER" title! Brad currently works for AgVantage in Charles City. He and his wife Tracy (also an Elks member) live in Charles City and are the parents of four grown boys. Brad loves to fish, and is deeply committed to the care of the natural habitat on the Lodge grounds.
Jessica first joined the Charles City Elks in 2014 after she moved to Charles City to be nearer to her parents. She was active in the Elks from that point on, and agreed to start her journey through the chairs in 2020. Of course, she enjoys all the social aspects of membership and has been a regular attendee of Lodge meetings and State Conventions, so this was a logical move for her! Jessica is a paralegal with the Noah, Smith, and Schukneckt Law Firm in Charles City. In her spare time she enjoys singing at her church and has also performed with the Charles City Singers. In her spare time, Jessica will be traveling throughout the state with her husband, Iowa State President Eric Whipple. We wish her well!
Ron Munshower has been a fixture at the Lodge since he joined 61 years ago. He has gone through the chairs, served as Exalted Ruler, Trustee, Secretary, and Tiler. He has served as our Esquire for 33 years. Ron and his wife Carol are frequent visitors at the Lodge. He still volunteers as he is able!
Sally Vowell joined the Elks in 2009 after working in the kitchen and cleaning at the Lodge. She became Lodge Tiler in 2019 and has been in that position ever since! While Sally certainly could have retired long ago, we are happy she continues to help out at the Lodge. She runs a pretty tight kitchen, so govern yourselves accordingly!
